A couple of years ago, we introduced a new task force that was assembled with a specific purpose in mind, helping us to live out our mission as a church. We called it the Missional Engagement Task Force (METF) because its purpose was to help us to discover how we can best live out the mission of our church in the post-covid, post-church world (as Peter Sung called it). The Task Force struggled to get going, but with this email, we are announcing to the church the first step in the process. We are looking to see how we can best lead the church in a way that nurtures disciples and sets us up to cultivate God’s values in the world.
What is the first step?
The first step is to listen! We want to hear from you about how you are engaging the church and her mission. To hear how you are living into our priorities as a church through conversations with people – in an interview format.
Who will be interviewed?
Everyone who is attending our church now is on the list of people to be interviewed. Husbands and wives will be interviewed together for the most part, but there is flexibility with that.
Who will be doing the interviews?
The members of the Missional Engagement Task Force have divided the list of church attenders between themselves and will be contacting people on their list to set up conversations. The members of the team are:
- Linda Iwanski,
- Iruoma Nwabuzor,
- Bob Wood,
- Doug Peat and
- Rod Reid.
What will be asked in the interviews?
As I said, these conversations are around listening, and we want to hear how you are engaging in our church mission. It is set up around the four foci from the PH Report we did last year. We have questions in each of these four areas:
- Practicing Hospitality
- Making Disciples
- Developing Leaders
- Focusing Outward
We have included the interview form down below if you want to see the questions that will be asked. We do encourage you to take a look and spend some time thinking about the questions before hand. It will help the interview go smoothly.
What is the purpose of these interviews:
To help the METF to accomplish the purpose it was created to do.
What is the purpose of the METF?
The write up for the METF had a few mandates/priorities, but these are the ones that are less process oriented:
- Assemble around the goal of positioning our “multi-cultural, multi-generational, Christ-centred community” for active engagement and involvement in nurturing this community of disciples, living out the call of Christ in our lives and our world, and stewarding the resources of our community.
- Create a flexible structure that involves the congregation in leadership, encourages input and creativity, gives permission for risk in new initiatives and builds in accountability.
When is this happening?
The METF is going to start right away, so expect a phone call, email, or a tap on the shoulder from one of our METF members very soon. We hope to have the interviews/conversations completed by the end of the summer.
